Thanks EDB. That makes it easier!

Ezequiel,
I would prefer not to be our admiral as things are very busy for me right now. If no one else wants the duty I suppose I could take a stab at it.

I think one of our players prefers to try St Vincent or Finistere since he just played Meditteraneo.

EDB,

Going to Historicon, eh? I'm usually there with Sash and Saber, but I had to skip this show so Chris is on his own. Have fun!

I am guessing there are more Argentines, so St Vincent is probably the one to play. Naturally I don't mind playing as the British.

I like Mediterraneo myself, but I have not played one yet that I did not like.

Fellow Anglophones, should we take on the role of Bonaparte's taxis in the battle of the Med?

It looks like we have four willing English speakers. I know Vernon prefers not to play in larger games and wulfe is still away on vacation.

Calsir and Aaron you can recruit all english speakers? Please.

I think we will get a few from your post here. I know some people are on vacation though. How many players per side do you have in mind?

I just got back into town. I'll do what I can to keep things moving.

I enjoyed what I could see of it, which was not much. I think I should hide out in the fog more often. It seems to bring our team luck. Thanks to Plus Ultra for the great fight!

Playing at brigade level would remove too much of the particularities of napoleonic warfare, imho. You can't order a full brigade to form in square (and if you do, it shouldn't be a question of "all or none" are able to), you can't keep tactical reserves if you have to charge with all of the brigade, etc. That level would require too many abstractions, at least for the kind of game I like.
Raimon

It is all a question of who you want to pretend to be. If you want to be a brigadier then you want to order battalions into squares. If you want to be Napoleon then you just want to tell Marshal Victor to drive the enemy out of that town and you don't necessarily care what formation the battalions are in. I have played games at all levels and enjoyed most of them, but I confess I do like the battalion-level games quite a bit!

I have never played the Talonsoft games, but I'll happily take your word for it that it can be done. Most of my gaming has been with board games and miniatures which naturally take much longer to play since you are physically moving components and doing all of the measuring and calculating yourself.

"Tactical Napoleon" would be my choice also. The scale is tricky though. If the individual unit is to be the batallion then even with multiple players per side we should not aspire to play more than a small portion of major battles like Eylau, Borodino, etc. BUT we could play out a lot of the smaller battles in Spain at that level I think, not to mention some of the more interesting smaller like Quatre Bras.

If you do want to play the big battles then I think the brigade is the smallest unit that should be represented.

Old Glory's shopping cart is notorious for exaggerating the shipping charges. I have been told by more than one person that they will give you a different price if you email them.

I thought the English knew it wasn't cricket to attack without asking first.  ;D I wish my Spanish was good enough to tackle it. That sounds like a fantastic book.

You may want to try some Spanish language searches there. I know there are a lot of non-English books there also. I found this one right away which seems to be comparing Trafalgar and Santiago de Cuba: http://www.archive.org/details/trafalgarysantia00mullrich and one that appears to be a Spanish history of the battle http://www.archive.org/details/historiadelcomb00coutgoog. If I see anything that looks up your alley I'll be sure to post it.

I did find an English translation of Benito Perez Galdos' novel about Trafalgar which sounds interesting.
