hehehehehhe, go figure I thought that might have happened hehehehe. Let's wait for Munrox to solve it, or give a solution for it. Actually, let me delete one from the original list of captains for this battle.

BTW, let me say that it will start as soon as there is a good number of captains for the scenario and Munrox can create it. Just a note in case someone was wondering about its start. Just keep an eye open

Well, I think we will begin the game this afternoon. There are already 8 players signed. I will add two veteran players (one to each side) so they can help you learning the game. This two players will give you advice in case of dangerous moves, help you not to collide, ... This way we'll have 10 total players.

The selected scenario will be the Mediterranean battle. It is a hypothetical battle of the same two fleet at the Nile battle but both sailing.

Now I'm giving you access to each fleet sub forum where players can talk all about the battle. In an official ladder battle players can only chat before the battle starts then they can only use the game flags or short messages.
Título: Re: First learning battle
Publicado por: Aaron en Abril 10, 2008, 06:46:24 pm
Great! Where can we find the flag codes?
Título: Re: First learning battle
Publicado por: Wishgamer en Abril 10, 2008, 06:56:48 pm
Hey Aaron, I'm certain there is a list inside the forum, but the one I know is in Spanish. Anyway, inside the game, when you have a ship, you'll find to the right of it a message link. Clicking on it, you'll be in a new screen where you can either send a message with flags, or a voice message to a near ship (closer than 150 m).

But to the start of things, we will be using the forum to comment tactics, moves, rules, firing effects, ammo,... and try to solve every doubt players might have... the best we can :) As far as I know it might be Munrox in one side, and myself to the other, so let me ask you all for some patience with my ability to explain things in English as I'm not used to the "sea vocabulary"  ;) I'll try my best and I'm confident we will have loads of fun

We normally try to simulate that as a captain you cannot predict your forward and backward ships movements, scattering your ships works on this purpose.

Now you should select the orders fo each of your ships, and then click on the red button on the top right of the screen for each, this will set the status of the ship as ready, when the last player sets her ship ready a green arrow will appear for him, and after clicking all the ships will move adn another turn begins.

Ok, wait a moment, lets be patient for the start of this battle... Munrox... I've seen the ship you gave me ::)... now in which SubForum am I supposed to be communicatin'g with the Captains of my side? I suppose it might be the French one... but I don't have access to it...If it is just that there is nothing yet ready then I will wait :)

Now I have the most difficult side to comment, and the biggest ship there...Something real new to me  :-[

Ok, lets try to have fun and learn a few things about Velmad...

I think there are some inactive players in this battle we started. Maybe they signed and didn't come back.

For the more active players I think we could begin a new battle, maybe a small scenario or a battle against a group of spanish and argentinian players that didn't play any velmad's game before.

CyJan, Zarby, ... any other player is interested?
Título: Re: First learning battle

Yes - that owuld be good.

Shall we assume that ships marked 'move' are missing players and do it for them?

Cyjan
Título: Re: First learning battle
Publicado por: Munrox en Abril 14, 2008, 02:18:17 pm
Yes, ships marked with "move" are the ships that didn't receive orders the last turn. This ships are inactive till her owner come back and move them.

Any player on the same side can move these ships.

if it shows 'move' then do it, if their owner comes back before nexdt turn he can switch orders at will, but if he doesn't you gain time.

:o I'm happy to give it a shot. I'm not sure I have all of the technical aspects of the game down, but I feel familiar enough with sailing warfare in general to try it.

I feel it is only fair to point out that I rarely win in any game I play.

what should we do when we head on a one week vacation?
Título: Re: First learning battle
Publicado por: Wishgamer en Mayo 07, 2008, 06:00:14 pm
Hello pkpowers.

The first thing to do is to notify it if possible.

Then there are some options:

-The easiest way should be to leave your login info to a player you have confidence with so he can log-in and move your ships timely
-If not, then you can leave in your nationality's forum instructions on how to move your ships (what you're trying to do). This way your friends in the same fleet will move your ships when the turn is over and will be able to do it following your instructions.
-If it is a longer trip then maybe Munrox could reassign your ships to other player until when you're back. The problem here is that he has to do it by hand and it means more work than what he already has here (and this is way too much)

Hope this helps and remember: most importantly notify it

Ah! Then there should be no problems. Speak to your opponent directly through a private message. Explain him you'll be off for a week and that the game will be stopped because of that and, when you're back, you will be able to continue  ;)

Munrox, I have already sent you a private message, but just want to comment on it here just in case I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. I hope nobody will move my ship this turn before this gets fixed. Thanks.

The problem starts with me not vieweing the flags on the Franch ships. But the worse thing is that I can fire at HMS Orion but it doesn't show me if it is the whole port broadside or half of it, and in such case which half ??? I was working on shooting again to this ship while she approaches us and now I cannot do it with confidence ???

Please Munrox, take a look at this. And if there is anyone else experiencing my same difficulties, please comment here

EDIT:
French flags are again viewable, but not yet my shoting broadside. Good work my friend ;)

As I see you are already targeting HMS Orion from L'Orien. (half stern section)

Well, maybe it was something to do with the computer I was accessing from that couldn't download that image for any strange reason???

Thanks so much my friend

Ok sirs, it seems the battle is over despite the last collision and then recapture of Le Guerrier. We have gone past turn 60 and we have had a turn with no shots so the Royal keeps her prize ship that we will try to recapture in a future battle ;)

I want to thank all the participants for their good pace sailing, and express both my gratitude and my congratulations to the French fleet for their terrific performance and my only hope now is that I've been able to show them how does Velmad work, and a few of the behavior of each ship in a fleet and hope they accept my apologies for the time I've been less active there to help them and sure will be a honor to fight again together with them in the future days.

Congratulations too to the enemies who I hope have had a good time learning how does this great game work. From now on, we will have to start signing up for more battles using the bidding system "wasting" our points to grab ships.

There is only one thing, one serious and important thing, I've missed for sure in this battle and is to teach my captains how do flag signals work, but sure we could arrange another battle where we could do it, couldn't we Munrox? How much did the Royal use flags? Wouldn't it be worth a learning battle II?

Now let's go back to Toulon and have some good wines together Sirs 8) Good Job!!

Strangely I can still take my turns, although the red button will not light up. It hurts me to let the Guerrier go, but at least I made up for it.

I know I could use a little signals practice. I tried sending some to Cyjan in another game and all I managed was gibberish.

Congratulations to everyone, I think we all learned a lot.

Most importantly, many thanks to our gracious hosts!

Are you still signing up players for the next beginners game?

Good idea about a second learning battle to work on the flag signals, count me in.

It took me many game turns to find out that First Learning Battle was the correct thread for discussing Game 56: the Nile. It would be easier to find the right place to ask questions if that information were  placed in the thread tittle=  First learning battle: Game 56, the Nile

If you are the chief programmer, administrator, referee, sales manager, and customer service; when do you have time to play the game?

You should have an email at wanadoo.es

EMail problem, I just sent it again Monrox.

I enjoyed playing several ships in the same game. Not only did it give me more time to play, it gives me a idea how difficult it is to coordinate movement between ships in a fleet.

<<You said you would start a new batle for activ players.
Any idea when? Cyjan>>

<<Only Zarby and you have requested it. Anyway I can put both of you in a new small battle against a couple or three spanish and argentinian players. What do you think?>>

Did this new game ever get started?

We had 4 people and decided to run a small practice battle instead.

IronDuke9, your ID is 594. You can check it from the Captains ranking  ;).

Methinks the ID at the end of IronDuke9's messages is not about Velmad's id.  ;)
